The nine collective authors, all with strong records in the practice and/or study of military affairs, are concerned with the nonquantitative elements of military strength--morale, training, discipline, organization, espirit de corps, and so forth that give an order of battle of tanks and divisions its `fighting power'.... Seven different NATO armies and three Warsaw Pact forces are reviewed, with the bulk of the attention focused on the US Army. ... On balance, this is a good book. It is well-written and packs a lot of information and insightful judgments into less than 250 pages of text.
