Description
This textbook is an introduction to children and their literature written especially for children's and school librarians offering them lists, activities, and information about books and their authors.

Reviews:
-"Written as a text for undergraduate and graduate courses, this guide is full of practical information for the about-to-be school or public librarian. Its activity-oriented approach to children's literature gives the student a survey of several genres plus ways to use both current and classic books with young patrons in grades K-6. . . . Excellent lists of related resources are included for each genre, as are evaluation criteria with sample reviews. Lists of professional references and books cited complete the work." —Booklist
-"This is an excellent resource for a library science student, a new librarian, teacher, or even a seasoned professional. Introducted as a literature textbook designed for librarians and library media specialists, it showcases activities that can help bring children and families together with books, foster a love of reading, and provide effective readers advisory. . . . Sylvia Vardell has taken her experience as a college professor and the experiences of others and created a textbook that gives practical, real-life applications for connecting children with books. It will be useful to librarians long after they graduate. This is definitely a must-have for universities with library science programs and would make a nice addition to any youth librarian's professional and personal collection. Recommended." —Library Media Connection
