  • [This] is an interesting and worthwhile contribution to the international political economy and U.S. foreign policy literature. Several chapters would make excellent assigned reading for graduate and undergraduate courses, expecially those on energy and food resources.... The concluding essay, by Rober Jordan, is also above the average for this collection, and does provide something of an overview. However, I believe most economists interested in the subjects covered in this book would do well to seek one paying more attention to the economic substance of the issues and displaying a greater understanding of them.
    —American Political Science Review
Description: In a world where the shifting sands of oil resource control and exploitation wreak havoc on international economic and political affairs, resource management and ownership are issues of paramount importance. U.S. national interest in this area is a subject of continuing debate and discussion in both academic and government circles. This book delineates the parameters of that debate and develops a "real-world" picture of what U.S. policy toward world resource management is--and what it should be. The history of U.S. policy in the core areas of marine minerals, food, and energy is outlined throughout this collection of expert analyses. In each of the focus areas, articles explore what might be achieved by multilateral approaches to resource issues. In conclusion, the forces of global interest and national interest are compared to offer guidelines of future U.S. policy.
