Reviews:
  • A superb bibliography on the subject. Recommended for academic and main library sports reference collections.
    —Reference Book Review
  • Designed as a research tool for scholars and students as well as a source of practical information for coaches, athletic directors, administrators, and athletes, this comprehensive bibliography lists books and articles in journals, magazines, and newspapers generally published in the US since 1970. The nearly 2,900 entries are not annotated but include several quite helpful subject scope terms. The citations, an effective blend of scholarly and popular materials, are arranged in five major categories: "General Works," "The Team, Players and Coaches," "The Game, Competition and Contestants," "Sports and Society," "Reference Works." Within these major categories, separate chapters allow quick location of materials related to such primary topics as drug use and testing, gambling, violence, minorities, women, and the media.
