Series Title:
Reference Sources in the Social Sciences
Reviews:
"For students, librarians, and scholars, Jacoby and Kibbee provide an annotated guide to reference and information sources in cultural anthropology, including print and online resources, with focus on the subfield of sociocultural anthropology and North America. They exclude specialized sources relevant to biological anthropology, linguistics, and archaeology, but do include brief treatment of major sources in these subfields. Sections cover general and social science sources, reference sources, methods and practice, specific subfields and research areas, humanities related fields such as ethnomusicology, folklore, and performance studies, and area and ethnic studies. Titles published up to 2006 are provided, even if they are out of print. Additions to this edition include online resources and those in new areas, such as forensic anthropology, environmental anthropology, and lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgendered anthropology. Indexes are by title, subject, and author."

"This second edition provides annotated citations to an updated range of expertly selected print and Internet sources for research in anthropology. A well-written introduction clearly explains the literature of anthropology. Jacoby and Kibbee offer annotations for seminal and current reference works in social sciences, and core reference titles for the field of anthropology and subfields of archaeology, biological anthropology, and linguistic anthropology. The strength of the book, however, is its coverage of research areas in cultural anthropology, including medical, cognitive, economic, evolutionary, educational, and political anthropology, and ethnohistory; and other, newer subdisciplines such as environmental and global anthropology, and sexuality, along with related fields including ethnomusicology, folklore, and dance. Useful annotations encompass encyclopedias, dictionaries, bibliographies, manuals, style guides, print and Internet indexes, Web sites, literature surveys and reviews, and dissertations. . . . Highly recommended. All levels."

"This 2d edition of
Cultural Anthropology
adds Internet sites and new print sources not available in 1991 when the last edition came out. . . . Multiple indexes for subjects, titles, and authors help locate works within the text."

Description:
The latest edition of a major literature guide provides citations and informative annotations on a wide range of reference sources, including manuals, bibliographies, indexes, databases, literature surveys and reviews, dissertations, book reviews, conference proceedings, awards, and employment and grant sources. The organization closely follows that of the 1st edition, with some much-needed additions relating to online resources and new areas of interest within the field (such as forensic anthropology, environmental anthropology, and Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, and Transgendered Anthropology). Separate sections focus on individual subfields, as well as emerging concerns such as ethical issues in cultural heritage preservation. For academic and research library collections, as well as faculty members in anthropology, area studies, and intercultural studies.
