Description: The perfect book for teaching the administration of school library media centers. After a brief history of the role of the media specialist, readers learn how to choose a credential program, how to find the requirements for working in each of the 50 states, what to do when looking for and choosing a job, and how to survive the first week in that new position. Chapters then expand on the challenges of the first week, introducing collections, facilities, personnel, and technology. Sections also cover: collaborating with teachers, how to write a proposal, and how to accept leadership responsibilities, including the role of a media specialist in the legislative process.

This revision updates information and changes some of the emphasis from previous editions, particularly in the areas of the role of the library media specialist in the teaching of reading, the assessment of student learning, the leadership role of the school librarian, and the impact of new technologies on the management of the library media center.
