Deborah Hopkinson DEBORAH HOPKINSON is the author of numerous award-winning books for children, including Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt, winner of the International Reading Association Award; A Band of Angels, winner of the Golden Kite Award; Under the Quilt of Night, winner of the Washington State Book Award; Girl Wonder, winner of the Great Lakes Book Award and a Jane Addams Peace Award Honor Book, and Shutting out the Sky, an NCTE Orbis Pictus Honor Book, a Jane Addams Peace Award Honor Book, and a James Madison Book Award Honor. She and her husband, Andrew Thomas, are the parents of two grown children, Rebekah and Dimitri.
