Each volume in this series looks at a historical era in U.S. history through an examination of the coverage of the key events of the day in the media. Thirty to forty selected events and numerous excerpts from sources such as newspapers, magazines, broadsides, and pamphlets will provide readers with the opinions of the day in the actual words of the opinion-makers. Each volume will feature:
An extensive overview essay on the era
A capsule description of the event and its historical and political context
Numerous primary document excerpts expressing a variety of viewpoints, showing the complexity and contentiousness of the issues
