This important series provides histories of the major religious denominations in America, placing them within the broad context of social and cultural history. Each volume is made up of two major parts: a historical survey of the development in America of the particular denomination, and biographical sketches of the individuals who played a leading role in the founding or evolution of the denomination. To date, this series, which is edited by prominent scholar Henry Warner Bowden, covers the Baptists, Unitarians and Universalists, Quakers, and Congregationalists. Some of the future volumes in the series will cover the Presbyterians, the Church of Christ, the Roman Catholics, and the Episcopalians.
