A dynamic and meaningful way of studying American history is to trace major ongoing issues through the key events that defined them over the nation's 200-year history. Students will be able to debate the issues that have driven political, social, and economic change by accessing the wealth of primary source material and commentary in the volumes in this series. Each volume, written by a subject specialist, is a complete resource guide devoted to a pivotal issue in American history and features chronologically organized entries on 10-15 watershed events on which that issue turned over the course of American history. A narrative introduction to the issue and a timeline of events provide valuable historical context. The entry on each event contains:
  • Comprehensive discussion and analysis of the event
  • Text of 3-8 primary documents contemporary to the time of the event, presenting a variety of viewpoints of participants in the event, and an explanatory introduction to the document
  • Helpful annotated research guide, including books, recommended web sites and videos
