I. WELCOME

Greenwood Press (http://www.greenwood.com) publishes authoritative reference titles ranging from content-rich, in-depth online reference sources to multivolume encyclopedias to narrative reference volumes, guides, handbooks, and even biographies. Greenwood Press is the reference-publishing arm of Greenwood Publishing Group (GPG), a leading publisher of reference titles, general interest books, textbooks, books for librarians and other professionals, and electronic resources. With over 18,000 titles in print, GPG publishes some 800 books each year, many of which are recognized with awards from Choice, Library Journal, the American Library Association, and other academic and professional organizations.

We are delighted to publish your work and look forward to an association that will result in a first-rate publication.

Editorial and Production Staff

You will work with different editors during the life of your project, as well as with other Greenwood staff:

Acquisitions Editor

Your acquisitions editor presents the idea of your project to our librarian advisory board and will then help you to refine the initial idea and create a formal book proposal. The acquisitions editor oversees the project by "selling" the book to our marketing group, approving the manuscript, negotiating the contractual terms, and (in some cases) line editing your manuscript. Do not hesitate to call on your editor when you have a question or concern.

Development Editor

Your project might be assigned to a development editor, particularly if your book is a large work of three or more volumes or part of a set or series. He or she will review your entry list, help you create contributor guidelines, track progress, review material as it is completed, and generally work with you to ensure the project's completion on time and in acceptable form. The development editor has the responsibility for noting any issues in content and organization that will need to be addressed before the complete and final manuscript is submitted to the acquisitions editor.

Editorial Administration

Once your manuscript has been approved for transmittal to production, Greenwood's Editorial Administration group will review it for any outstanding issues involving contributor releases (for which, see below) or copyright permissions.

Project Managers

A Greenwood project manager will oversee your manuscript's journey through the production process, including copyediting and typesetting by the outside production houses we work with, through to bound book.
