Praeger Guidelines
Before sending your completed manuscript to your acquisitions editor, be sure that you have placed the elements of your manuscript in the proper order. You may or may not choose to include all the items in the list that follows, but the material should be presented in the order given:
  1. Title page
  2. Copyright Acknowledgments
  3. Dedication (or epigraph) [if desired]
  4. (Table of) Contents [be sure titles exactly match titles in text]
  5. (List of) Illustrations
  6. Foreword
  7. Preface [including personal or professional acknowledgments]
  8. List of Abbreviations
  9. Introduction
  10. Text [including captions, if necessary]
  11. Appendix(es)
  12. Notes
  13. Glossary
  14. Bibliography
  15. About the Contributors [for contributed volumes only]
Checklist
  • Send a complete hard copy of the manuscript as well as a digital copy of the book on disk. Always keep a backup copy of your disk.
  • Number the manuscript pages consecutively.
  • Identify in notes the sources of all quoted material.
  • Crosscheck citations in text, notes, and bibliography for consistency in all details.
  • Check consecutive numbering of notes. Check statistical copy and tabular material for accuracy.
  • Send camera-ready or digital copy for all tables, figures, and illustrations. (Criteria provided in Graphics, Section 6 of these instructions.) Include a photocopy or laser printout of each piece with its number, title, caption, credit, and any cropping instructions.
  • Check sources and notes to tables, figures, and illustrations and be sure all tables, figures, and illustrations are correctly numbered.
  • Be sure that all necessary permissions to reprint copyrighted material have been obtained in writing and that copies of these permission letters have been sent to the editorial department.
