Praeger Guidelines
Your book will be marketed to public libraries. Therefore, it should be interdisciplinary and jargon-free so that it is accessible to the general, lay reader. The tone should be clear and straightforward. When it is necessary to use specialized terminology, including acronyms and abbreviations, provide explanations the first time terms are used. If you are in doubt about whether a person or event may be familiar to the reader, err on the side of caution by providing an explanation. Do not, however, write informally or pepper your prose with jokes. As you proofread your manuscript before submission, consider readability. The writing should be understandable to an intelligent, educated reader who does not have specialized training in your subject. Please remember that the Publisher retains the right to edit your manuscript to ensure that it conforms to the Author Guidelines as well as the Publisher’s standards of capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and usage.
