September 2005 update

The latest update to Daily Life through History features a wealth of new content dedicated to the theme of Death, Burial, and the Afterlife. Starting on September 19th, users will be able to find out about such topics as Tibetan Sky Burials, Viking burial practices, and more or search Primary Documents for new theme-related materials like John Donne's poem, "Death be not proud." New material includes:
  • Daily Life in the Medieval Islamic World
  • 20 newly commissioned articles exploring Death, Burial and the Afterlife through time and around the world
  • 20 new Tours through Time
  • New primary documents, including the Gettysburg Address

This year's updates are only the beginning—subscribers should expect Daily Life through History to double in size over the next year, all as part of the normal subscription price.

Free website! Lesson plans

Later in Fall 2005, Greenwood will offer subscribers access to a free sister site that supports Daily Life through History by hosting a wealth of teacher resources, beginning with 50 exciting new lesson plans that cover 7 key curriculum strands: American History, World History (Ancient), World History (Modern), World Geography, American Government, Economics, and American History (Civics). Lesson plans include topics ranging from "Media Coverage of the Vietnam War in the 1960s" to "British Imperialism in India" to "Art and Architecture of the Incas, Mayas and Aztecs," as well as all the blank charts, timelines, tables, maps, and diagrams needed to complete the lesson. Presentation formats include debates, posters, newspapers, and essays. At launch, the lesson plans will correlate to CA, FL, TX and NCSS standards, but by Spring 2006 the site will correlate to standards for all states and will be searchable by state standard, strand, or lesson plan subject.

Launch of World Cultures Today — the blue pages

On August 3, 2005 Greenwood was proud to release the latest member in the Daily Life Online family. World Cultures Today provides a one-stop reference for questions on everyday life in the contemporary world, from food to fashion, and from naming conventions to wedding rites. Existing Daily Life through History subscribers who buy World Cultures Today will see the new material fully integrated within their existing site—doubling the content but keeping the familiar interface. World Cultures Today pages are blue to distinguish them from original Daily Life through History, and icons have been added to search results to indicate which source the result is from.
