Early Librarian Feedback

"Several members of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association, myself included, were honored to have been involved in the creation of The African American Experience, an online database we use and highly recommend to our colleagues and customers in response to queries about the Black experience. The AAE is a user-friendly, comprehensive database suitable for students, researchers, and academics in their quest for relevant facts, maps, charts, and historical information."
—Andrew P. Jackson, President of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (2004–2006)

Contents

New Content Added to The African American Experience

By the end of November 2006, 41 new titles will have been added to the more than 300 titles that made up The African American Experience’s original cache of content. Ranging from multivolume encyclopedias, such as Greenwood’s newly published three-volume Encyclopedia of the Great Black Migration (2006), to The Sound of Stevie Wonder (2006), a fresh biography from the Praeger Singer-Songwriter Collection, this content represents an acquisition value of more than $4,500 in print titles. See full list of new titles.

Timeline Feature Coming This Fall

Later this fall, our new Timeline feature, based on Greenwood’s forthcoming African American Chronology by Kwando M. Kinshasa, will be added. Searchable by key word and time period, the Timeline will explore the Black experience from its African origins to the present day. This newest feature will allow users to quickly locate information by date or time period, further enhancing the options for easy exploration of research topics.

The Latino American Experience Launches in Spring 2007

The second "tile" in Greenwood’s American Mosaic suite of resources, The Latino American Experience will launch in Spring 2007. This dynamic site will explore the fastest-growing ethnic minority group in the United States. The site will feature more than 200 volumes of content, an Origins section that traces the diverse heritage of Latinos from the Iberian Peninsula to Latin America, and a searchable Timeline. A fully integrated version of The American Mosaic will feature both The African American Experience and The Latino American Experience, offering students and library patrons a unique perspective on U.S. history and culture.
