Greenwood's Latino American Experience [LAE] premiered on March 27, 2007. The second tile in The American Mosaic, LAE is the first full-text digital reference product to focus on U.S. Latinos. This dynamic site illuminates the lives, history, politics, and culture of the largest, fastest-growing ethnic minority group in the United States. Developed with guidance from noted Latino scholar Ilan Stavans and a team of Latino librarians, the site features 167 titles, hundreds of primary documents and images, a searchable Timeline, Classroom Resources, Spanish-language content, and an Origins section that traces the diverse heritage of Latinos. Whether you're looking for the Alamo or the Zoot Suit Riots, Celia Cruz or Selena, quinceñera or paella recipes, LAE provides all the answers. The African American Experience Named Best Online Reference for 2006The African American Experience has been named a Best Online Reference for 2006 by Library Journal. The first component in The American Mosaic family of products earned an 11 (out of 10!) rating from LJ for “its extraordinary combination of content and design.” Read more reviews at The African American Experience. New Content for The African American ExperienceAs if winning awards weren't enough, by the end of May 2007, 33 new titles will be added to the already robust African American Experience, bringing the total number of fully searchable, full-text titles to more than 375. Ranging from multivolume encyclopedias, such as the three-volume Encyclopedia of American Civil Rights and Liberties (2006) and two volume Encyclopedia of the Reconstruction Era (2006), to new biographies on Dr. Dre, Billie Holiday, and Lucille Clifton, this newly added content represents an acquisition value of more than $3,500 in print titles. Not to be outdone, the World Folklore and Folklife database has also been named a Best Online Reference for 2006 by Library Journal. This valuable online resource earned a perfect 10 out of 10 score from Library Journal reviewer Cheryl LaGuardia, who called this new component in Greenwood's acclaimed Daily Life Online social history database an “exceptional file” that combines “outstanding” design with “useful and substantial” content. Examining what we eat, how we dress, the stories we tell, and more, World Folklore and Folklife provides a multicultural entry point from which to examine all aspects of traditional culture.
